Counselling Support for Neurodiverse Individuals – At Every Stage of the Journey

Whether you suspect you may be neurodiverse, are currently awaiting a diagnosis,
or have received a diagnosis and are wondering, “What now?”, I can offer
compassionate, tailored counselling support. Navigating life as a neurodiverse
individual comes with unique experiences and challenges, and I am dedicated to
providing a space that respects and embraces your individuality.

I am experienced in supporting both teens and adults with neurodivergent conditions using CBT and ACT and have undertaken specialist training in working with clients on the Autistic Spectrum and clients with ADHD.

My approach is collaborative and strengths-focused, allowing clients to feel
understood and empowered as they work toward positive changes in their lives.

My counselling approach is tailored to support neurodivergent clients by adapting
therapeutic methods to meet their specific needs, for example:

  • Clear and Direct Communication: When working with neurodivergent clients, I communicate in a direct and straightforward way rather than using abstract language and implied meanings.

  • Flexibility in Session Structure: I can offer flexible session formats, allowing for adjustments based on a client’s current energy levels, attention span, or sensory needs. To make sessions more flexible, I can break down tasks into smaller steps, use visual aids, and incorporate breaks as required.

  • Consistent Routine and Predictability: I understand that some neurodivergent clients benefit from routine and predictability. I can also provide a consistent session structure, with a set agenda or routine, to help reduce anxiety and foster a sense of safety. I am also sure to inform clients of any changes in advance.

  • Pacing of Sessions: Some neurodivergent clients may require extra time to process information, reflect on questions, or respond. I give plenty of time and space for silence and enable clients to communicate at their own pace.

  • Collaboration and Client-Led Goals: I can help neurodivergent clients with specific goals such as managing sensory overload, improving executive functioning, and understanding social dynamics.
